Hurricane Damage
Whether or not you should evacuate before a hurricane depends on several factors, but the safety of you and your loved ones should always come first. You should evacuate if local authorities have issued an evacuation order, you live in a high-risk area (such as a coastal zone), or if someone in your household requires medical devices requiring electricity. Additionally, if your home is older and susceptible to hurricanes it may be a good idea to evacuate.
Check that roof-mounted equipment like satellite dishes, antennas, and solar panels are properly anchored. Have a contractor inspect for and repair loose shingles, flashing, or leaks.
Repair or replace damaged windows and doors. When a hurricane approaches, board up windows and secure all doors to help keep wind and debris out. Also seal gaps and cracks around doors and windows to prevent water intrusion.
